Academic Support Program

Where is the book...The faculty and parents have identified the need to extend the Academic Support Program to middle school students as well as to offer increased support to students in all grades. The school will use the talents and abilities of a pool of tutors and practitioners who have specialized in certain fields. The tutors will work closely with classroom teachers. Therapeutic Eurythmy will continue at an additional cost to parents.

We know that students who received services in the past, and their parents will miss working with Barbara Witschonke, who has retired from the GBRSS and will continue tutoring privately.

In order for this extended program to be consistent with classroom learning, we will be scheduling tutorial blocks during selected times of the day. The first session will be from 7:40 - 8:25, and the second will be from 8:25 - 9:10, enabling students to remain in the heart of main lesson as well as attend most extra main lesson periods, thus giving more instructional time and support to students in need. Some students will continue receiving support during foreign language periods and some may profit from support for a designated window of time during extra main lessons.

In other cases students and teachers may benefit from having a tutor work together with the classroom teacher during a lesson. We are striving to meet the needs of our students in creative and effective ways.

A significant amount of money has been budgeted for this program in order to provide designated students with these essential services. Small group support will be provided in specific subject areas for all grades. After careful evaluation, support services will be provided to those students whose classroom teacher has identified a need for assessment or academic support. Parents will need to pay for services for students who require long-term, on-going, individual tutoring.
