Board and Council
In the second year of the elementary school, 1975,
we reorganized. The early Board, the incorporators, disbanded to strengthen faculty governance,
making way for a Teachers Council that continues to uphold the principles of Waldorf
education and guide the school's destiny.
Twelve years later, in 1987, a new Board
of Trustees was formed. The school had
grown in leaps and bounds with its
grounds and buildings, high enrollment,
large faculty and staff. The new Board would now oversee financial
and legal matters and the faculty could focus more on pedagogy.
The Teachers Council remains central and works closely with the Board.
Members of the Board in 1987 were, Jill Barrett Johnson,
president, Bob Norris, Torin Finser, John Root Sr., Michael
Dobson, Anne Charles, Susan Madison, Williar Dunlaevy and
Betty Krainis. Dennis Downing served in an advisory capacity.
We became a member of the Association of Waldorf
Schools of North America in the early 70's having been
sponsored by the New York Steiner School. The alliance
with the Association strengthened and inspired. Yearly
conferences with speakers such as Rene Querido, Werner
Glas and others have proved central to our growth.
