The Birth & Growth of a School 1971 - 1991:
Betty's Retirement
After 15 years of teaching, Betty took a sabbatical, extended it for another year and then
decided it was time to step back. Christina Williams replaced her in 1986 as the new kindergarten
teacher. Said Betty, "It's a comfort to know that the kindergarten is in such capable and
loving hands."
For the next two years as kindergarten consultant, she travelled in the
United States and Canada visiting Waldorf schools. "Now," she says, living next door
to the school, "I find great pleasure in attending assemblies and in seeing my
grandchildren and others joyfully running and playing on the school grounds. What the teachers
do every day is a constant source of amazement to me - their inspiration, creativity and dedication.
It goes without saying that the Great Barrington Rudolf Steiner School will always be close to my heart."
