The Birth & Growth of a School 1971 - 1991: Chronology - Appendix

Bith and Growth of a School 1971 Pumpkin Hollow School starts in January; one day a week Kindergarten; September, Kindergarten begins full-time

1974 Ist Grade begins 1975 2nd Grade begins; a grade is added each year until it becomes a full 8 grade Elementary school

1976 Build additional classroom for the 3rd grade ($6000)

1977 Million dollar estate offer by Dean Arnold (Arnold Bread) offer withdrawn - Anonymous $50,000 gift from a friend on a bicycle School is moved 1/2 mile down the road; 4 classrooms are added ($100,000); Jonathan Rose, architect

1978 Name is changed to the Great Barrington Rudolf Steiner School

1979-80 East wing is added, auditorium on lower level, woodworking shop and 3 classrooms on upper level ($110,000) … Summer Camp begins

1982 First 8th grade graduation, June

1983 Start building High school, 2/5's; Spring First 9th Grade, Fall

1984 Addition to Elementary school: Nursery and other classrooms

1986 Full 12 grade school … Founding of new Board

1987 Close High school, January … Hurlbert Outdoor Center program

1988 Renewal program to restore elementary school ($55,000)

1989 Resource program; Development program 0 office renovations

1990 Hall upgrading … Long Range planning begins
